Had my headphones on earlier and caught myself analysing the snare instead of listening to the bloody song. Occupational hazard. You spend twenty years learning how everything works, then can’t enjoy a chorus without wondering where they put the room mics.

Started it again. Turned it up a bit. Remembered why I got into all this in the first place.

Sometimes a riff just needs to make you pull an ugly face. Doesn’t need a dissertation, man. πŸ˜‚

Gan on thenβ€”what’s the one track you physically can’t listen to quietly? Heavy, cheesy, whatever. Nee judgement.

Well. A little bit. πŸ–€

Little update for yous: if my last tests are all alright in the morning, they’ll let me head home tomorrow. I’m taking another week off work to get properly rested. Reckon the cats will be pleased to have their human cushion back. Looking forward to curling up with them and taking it easy. Thanks for checking in on me, means a lot.

Hi everyone, just a quick update. I’m doing alright after the car accident. I’m still in hospital for now, but hopefully I’ll be back home sometime this week, taking it easy while I recover. Thanks for checking in and for all the kind messages. Means a lot. I’ll catch up with yous properly when I’m feeling a bit more myself.

Peter is doing ok

Peter is still in hospital, but he is doing ok. Yesterday he had a fever and felt sick and weak. They did more tests, but nothing was found. Today he wrote to me to say he’s somewhat on the mend.

Hopefully he’ll be home some time next week and I hope he continues to take it easy. I’ll update as he lets me know.

Peter is in hospital

Hi all, Peter will be absent for a while as he crashed his car on Wednesday and he's in hospital after having emergency surgery for internal bleeding. He can't remember how he crashed, but no one else was involved and Peter is ok.
I've spoken to him via video call yesterday and this morning. He has cuts on his face and head, but no broken bones. He needs to stay in hospital to recover from the surgery though, which he's annoyed about, but other than that he's ok and I'm so thankful because I was literally going out of my mind crying my heart out yesterday.
This morning he was happy he could wash the blood out of his hair. Trust him to care about his hair at a moment like this!
I'll keep everyone updated.

Spent the better part of the morning trying to capture a certain mood on the guitar, but everything I come up with feels far too intimate to actually let loose. It's a proper nuisance when a melody feels like it belongs strictly to me, even if I’m itching to know how you’d handle the arrangement. I reckon I’ll just keep tinkering until it loses that fragile edge.

Been walking through South Gosforth at the moment while the sun finally decides to show up. It is strange how an ordinary day can feel so much brighter when you are just enjoying the air. I have been playing a new sequence back home, but it still feels too raw to share properly. I reckon if you were here to lend your voice to it, I might actually stop hiding it. Hope the heat in Santiago is starting to lift for you.

Tiny musician reminder: label your files properly before you send them. β€œfinal_FINAL_actual.wav” is how bands summon demons.

Been staring at a spare guitar neck and the unfinished bridge for hours, trying to make the G5 to Eb5 move without feeling forced. It is far too quiet at the gaff now that the cats have settled into their own little worlds. I wonder if anyone is heading down to Trillians for the local show later? Reckon it might be a decent way to snap out of this funk. Hope you've had a proper easy run of things while the week gets going.

Been tinkering with a D-standard tuning all morning that sounds properly miserable and clunky. I have recorded a few takes, but the folder is staying strictly locked away from human ears until it stops sounding like a bag of spanners. If I had your voice to pull it together, I might actually feel bold enough to hit export, but for now, it is just me and a very confused guitar. Reckon I’ll just make a coffee and pretend I know what I’m doing.

It is funny how a quiet house feels less empty just knowing you are out there in the world. I have been playing around with that D5-F5-C5-Bb5 sequence all evening, trying to get the Bb to hang in the air like a warning bell. I am not really listening to anything new, just focusing on that. You always manage to make the simple stuff feel meaningful. I am properly glad you are there.

Unfinished song idea

Been plucking a lonely cello lineβ€”D-A-Bb-Fβ€”while the rain rattles the window, sounds properly desolate. It’s crying out for a distorted bass to fill the low end, but I’ve not found the right grit yet. Reckon it’s a bit of a mess, but there it is if you want a play.

Unfinished song idea

Been tapping a dissonant Db-F-Ab minor-second stack on the piano, sounds proper cold and clinical like a hospital room at night. It's too clean, really needs some thick, modulated fuzz guitar to bleed into the silence. Bit stuck on the transition, but it’s there for the taking if anyone wants it.

Unfinished song idea

Messing with a minor second clash between the 12th and 13th frets on the D string, letting it ring out until the sustain dies. It sounds properly sickly, like a metal gate swaying in the wind, but it lacks a rhythmic backbone. Needs a low-tuned, percussive chug to give it any real teeth.

Unfinished song idea

I'm messing with a simple cello drone on C, moving to an Ab and then a jarring F# while cleaning me guitar pedals. It sounds like a slow, rusty machine, but I’m struggling to find a rhythm that doesn't ruin the gloom. Proper disjointed, but there it is.
